As Dug Top Soil (BS3882)

Not all topsoil is equal. BS3882 compliance means you know exactly what you're getting before it arrives on site.

As Dug Top Soil Suppliers Cheshire

With Next-Day Availability

As Dug Top Soil is natural topsoil taken directly from site and screened to remove larger stones, roots and debris before supply. It hasn't been heavily processed or blended — what you're getting is essentially the earth as it exists naturally, cleaned up enough to be practical and certified to meet the BS3882 standard for topsoil quality.

BS3882 is the British Standard that defines what topsoil should contain and how it should perform. It covers everything from pH levels and organic matter content to the presence of contaminants and the texture of the material itself. Topsoil supplied to this standard has been tested and verified, which gives you a reliable baseline for what the material will do once it's in the ground. For anyone specifying topsoil for a landscaping scheme, development project or garden construction, that certification matters

Who Uses It and Why?

Landscaping contractors are probably the most frequent users. When establishing planted areas, laying turf or preparing ground for seeding, the quality of the topsoil directly affects how well things grow and how quickly a scheme establishes itself. Nutrient-poor or contaminated topsoil causes problems that take seasons to diagnose and correct, which makes getting the specification right at the outset a straightforward investment.

Housing developers use certified topsoil extensively on new build plots where the original topsoil has been stripped, stored or lost during construction. Reinstating the garden areas of new homes to a consistent, workable standard requires a reliable supply of topsoil that performs predictably, and BS3882 compliance is the most straightforward way to ensure that consistency across a large number of plots.

General garden projects, ground preparation for sports surfaces and post-construction landscaping on commercial sites all draw on the same material for the same reasons. The application changes but the requirement for quality, certified topsoil stays constant.

As Dug vs Screened Topsoil

Both meet BS3882, the difference is in how much processing the material has been through.

As Dug Top Soil is screened to remove the larger debris but retains its natural structure and composition. Screened Top Soil goes through a more thorough process that removes finer stones and produces a more refined, consistent texture. For most standard landscaping and garden preparation work, As Dug Top Soil does the job well and tends to come in at a more competitive price. Screened topsoil is worth considering where a finer finish is needed or where the application is more demanding, high-quality planting beds or premium landscaping schemes, for instance.

If you're not sure which grade suits your project, it's a quick conversation to have before you order.
